										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong data-start="0" data-end="12">Camphene</strong> (CAS 79-92-5) is a bicyclic monoterpene that occurs naturally in the essential oils of plants such as pine, <a href="https://dmg.es/en/cypress-essential-oil-discovering-its-uses-properties-and-history/">cypress</a>,<a href="https://dmg.es/en/rosemary-essential-oil-history-features-and-benefits/"> rosemary</a>, <a href="https://dmg.es/en/ginger-essential-oil-properties-history-and-uses/">ginger</a> and <a href="https://dmg.es/en/neroli-oil-uses-history-and-fragrance-of-orange-blossom-essence/">orange blossoms(neroli)</a>.</p>
<p>It is an isomer of <strong data-start="517" data-end="528">pinenes</strong> (alpha-pinene and beta-pinene) and <strong data-start="564" data-end="576">limonene</strong>. Although it shares the same molecular formula (C<sub>10</sub>H<sub>16</sub>) with these aromatic chemicals, the arrangement of its molecular structure gives it distinct organoleptic properties and makes it the only member of the group that occurs as a crystalline solid at room temperature, with a <strong data-start="854" data-end="871">melting point</strong> of around 48–52 °C.</p>
<p data-start="893" data-end="1118" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Its name derives from the Latin <em data-start="925" data-end="935">camphora</em>, reflecting its <strong data-start="952" data-end="987">close relationship with camphor</strong>, a semi-solid, crystalline aromatic compound that can be produced on an industrial scale through the oxidation of camphene itself.</p>

<h2>Camphene Production Methods</h2>
<p class="PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer" data-start="0" data-end="220">Although camphene can be obtained by <strong data-start="37" data-end="75">extraction from the essential oils</strong> that contain it, its concentration in these oils is generally low, making this method unviable for meeting the high levels of industrial demand.</p>
<p data-start="222" data-end="439" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">For this reason, camphene is currently produced mainly through the <strong data-start="289" data-end="328">catalytic isomerization of α-pinene</strong>, a monoterpene that is abundant in <strong data-start="364" data-end="378">turpentine</strong>, a <strong data-start="382" data-end="413">100% renewable raw material</strong> obtained from pine resin.</p>

<h2>A Brief History of Camphene</h2>
<p class="PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer" data-start="0" data-end="118">The history of camphene is closely linked to the search for alternatives to whale oil as a fuel for domestic lighting.</p>
<p data-start="120" data-end="270" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">In the 1830s, <strong data-start="134" data-end="152">camphine lamps</strong> began to gain popularity. These oil lamps predated kerosene lamps and were designed to burn <strong data-start="245" data-end="269">rectified turpentine</strong>.</p>

<p data-start="178" data-end="449">The widespread use of turpentine and its derivatives prompted 19th-century chemists to study its composition in depth. It was in this context that <strong data-start="325" data-end="348">Marcellin Berthelot</strong> eventually isolated, characterized and formally named <strong data-start="403" data-end="415">camphene</strong> as the pure molecule known today.</p>
<p data-start="451" data-end="836" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Berthelot was also the scientist who demonstrated in 1870 that <strong data-start="514" data-end="567">authentic camphor could be obtained from camphene</strong>. This discovery represented a major advance in organic chemistry and paved the way for the subsequent development of methods to produce this valuable compound without the need to import the expensive natural variety extracted from the Asian tree <em data-start="814" data-end="835">Cinnamomum camphora</em>.</p>

<h2>Camphene Applications in Modern Industry</h2>
<p class="PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer" data-start="0" data-end="162">Today, due to its olfactory profile, camphene is used directly in <strong data-start="66" data-end="79">perfumery</strong> to provide pine-needle nuances and as a <strong data-start="120" data-end="140">flavouring agent</strong> in the food industry.</p>
<p data-start="164" data-end="417">It is also highly relevant to industry as a <strong data-start="208" data-end="224">raw material</strong>, serving as an intermediate in the industrial synthesis of <a class="decorated-link" href="https://dmg.es/borneol-propiedades-historia-y-aplicaciones/" target="_new" rel="noopener" data-start="284" data-end="358"><strong data-start="285" data-end="296">borneol</strong></a>, <strong data-start="360" data-end="393">isoborneol, isobornyl acetate</strong> and <strong data-start="398" data-end="409">camphor</strong> itself.</p>
<p data-start="419" data-end="602">Another application of camphene is the <strong data-start="458" data-end="515">production of 100% renewable synthetic terpene resins</strong>, which can replace petrochemical derivatives in <strong data-start="564" data-end="601">coatings, varnishes and adhesives</strong>.</p>

<p>At room temperature, borneol appears as an <strong>opaque, white crystalline solid with a slightly cool feel to the touch</strong>. These organoleptic characteristics are reflected in its Chinese name, <em>bingpian</em>, which literally translates as <strong>&#8220;ice (冰, bīng) flakes (片, piàn).&#8221;</strong></p>
<h1>Methods of Obtaining Borneol</h1>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">Historically, borneol was obtained from the naturally crystallized resin found in the fissures of the <em>Dryobalanops aromatica</em> tree.</p>
<p>Although it can still be isolated from essential oils containing naturally occurring borneol, today it is more commonly produced by chemical synthesis. This process typically also yields varying amounts of <strong>isoborneol</strong> (CAS 124-76-5), a stereoisomer of borneol with its own commercial applications, which we will discuss later as it is also one of our manufactured products.</p>

<h1>A Brief History of Borneol</h1>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">Native to the island of Borneo, from which it takes its name, borneol was traditionally used by Malay communities in spiritual and funerary rituals.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">Valued more highly than gold, it became an important commodity in ancient maritime trade. Historical records indicate that it was already being exported to China during the Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD).</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">Since then, its use has become firmly established, particularly within <strong>Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)</strong>, where it has long been employed for conditions affecting the nervous system, respiratory tract and cardiovascular health, among many other applications.</p>
<p>Its significance was such that Li Shizhen devoted a section to borneol in the <em>Bencao Gangmu</em> (1596), one of the most influential encyclopaedic works on Chinese medicine and botany.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Grapefruit essential oil (Citrus x paradisi) is currently among the most widely used in fragrance creation.  It is commonly found in the <strong>top notes</strong> of <a href="https://dmg.es/en/summer-fragrances-season-trends/">fresh and carefree summer fragrances</a>.</p>
<p>Unlike other citrus fruits, such as orange and lemon, its origin and use do not date back thousands of years.</p>
<p>It was discovered in Barbados in 1750. It was named by Reverend Griffith Hughes as &#8220;<strong>the forbidden fruit</strong>,&#8221; alluding to the fruit responsible for the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. Today, grapefruit is considered a natural hybrid between the sweet orange (<em>Citrus x sinensis</em>) and the Chinese pomelo (<em>Citrus maxima</em>).</p>
<p>Its essential oil, like most citrus oils, is generally extracted through <strong>cold pressing</strong> of its peel. This mechanical process is carried out at room temperature and does not use solvents, which helps <strong>preserve the natural properties </strong>of the oil. During pressing, the grapefruit peels are compressed, expelling the essential oil they contain.</p>
<p>One of the most valued components of grapefruit essential oil is <strong>nootkatone</strong>. Although it usually constitutes <strong>less than 0.5%</strong> of its composition, is sufficient to be responsible for many of the olfactory notes of this oil.</p>

It usually grows in humid areas near rivers, streams or lakes, usually becoming the predominant tree in the environments in which it prevails.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Agarwood, also known as<strong> oud</strong>, is a highly valued raw material in the world of perfumery, due in part to its enormous olfactory complexity.</p>
<p>The olfactory accords of oud can vary greatly depending on its origin and quality, although they usually present <strong>woody smells with sensual animal nuances</strong> and a <strong>sweet, warm undertone with subtle earthy traits</strong>.</p>
<p>Oud is extracted from trees of the Aquilaria genus, of which there are dozens of species, some of which can reach forty meters in height.</p>
<p>They are found naturally in the Southeast Asia area, India and Bangladesh. Among the main exporters of agarwood are Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia, which can sell a kilo of top quality agarwood for <strong>more than €50,000</strong>.</p>
<p>The high price of this raw material is mainly due to its scarcity, since Aquilaria wood itself is practically odourless.</p>
<p>Only when these trees are infected by the fungus <em>Phialophora parasitica</em> do they begin to secrete a resin which is responsible for darkening the heartwood of the wood and producing that exquisite aroma, so appreciated by perfumers around the world.</p>
<p>Because the percentage of naturally infected Aquilaria trees is very low, artificial induction of this infection is commonly practiced.  Another variable that influences the quality of the oud to be always considered is that it is extracted from trees who are at least 25 years old.</p>
<p>Its essential oil can be extracted from this wood using methods such as <strong>steam distillation</strong>, although it is also common, especially in Arab countries, to burn oud fragments so that they give off their characteristic aroma.</p>

<h2><strong>BRIEF HISTORY OF OUD</strong></h2>
<p>Despite its popularity in the Middle East, the history of the oud begins in Asia, already appearing referenced in Sanskrit texts dating back to the 14th century BC.</p>
<p>In the year 65 BC, Dioscorides described in his book <em>De Materia Medica</em> various medicinal properties of oud and its use as <strong>incense</strong>.</p>
<p>Writings have also been found in China dating back to the 3rd century AD. about the collection of this matter. These records confirm that, at that time, it was already known that making cuts in an Aquilaria tree could cause, a few years later, the darkening of the internal wood of the tree and the production of agarwood.</p>
<p>Oud would later reach Japan and the Middle East, becoming completely rooted in the culture of countries like <strong>Saudi Arabia</strong>, where it is as representative of their perfumery as <strong>incense, myrrh and musk.</strong></p>
<p>As the use of Oud spread across Europe, French royalty also adopted the use of this exotic fragrance. Louis XIV of France, nicknamed the Sun King, loved this scent so much that he insisted on scenting his clothes with a mixture that included <strong>oud, nutmeg, cloves, and rosewater.</strong></p>

<p>Vanilla-scented ice cream is also the <a href="https://www.lexhaminsurance.co.uk/blog/top-10-most-popular-ice-cream-flavours-across-the-globe/">second favourite ice cream flavour</a> globally, only surpassed by chocolate ice cream. A <a href="https://en.as.com/latest_news/what-are-the-most-popular-ice-cream-flavors-in-the-us-preferences-by-state-n/">study</a> carried out in the United States reveals that vanilla ice creams are the best sellers in almost half of the states in the country.</p>
<p>As a curious fact, it is worth mentioning that Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States, discovered vanilla ice cream in the 1780s while living in Paris. He liked them so much that he wrote the first known recipe for vanilla ice cream recorded by an American and, upon his return, helped popularize this product in his country.</p>
<p>The enormous success of vanilla presents only one problem: it is th<strong>e second most expensive spice</strong>, after saffron. Its high price is largely due to its complicated cultivation and laborious harvesting.</p>

<h2>BRIEF HISTORY OF VANILLA</h2>
<p>Vanilla is obtained from the fruits of <em>Vanilla Planifolia</em>. These fruits are found inside a pod, whose diminutive in Spanish gives rise to its name, <em>vanilla</em>.</p>
<p>Native to South and Central America, the Totonac civilization is believed to have cultivated the vanilla orchid in the tropical areas of Mexico and Latin America for more than nine hundred years.</p>
<p>For the Totonacs, the origin of this flower that they considered sacred is explained by the legend of Xanath, a beautiful woman from a wealthy family who had the bad luck to be the object of desire of a capricious god.</p>
<p>Xanath, in love with a poor young man, decided to ignore the god, who furiously punished her by turning her into white flowers with an exquisite aroma: vanilla.</p>
<p>When the Aztecs conquered the Totonac people, they incorporated the use of vanilla into their culture, being the first to use vanilla and cocoa together in their cuisine. They called this mixture <em>xocolatl</em>.</p>
<p>Later, vanilla was so appreciated by the Spanish conquistadors that they brought it to Europe, along with cocoa, as a highly valued spice.</p>
<p>These plants were exported for cultivation to areas with similar climates but, for years, they were unable to bear fruit since, in those areas, there were no suitable insects to pollinate vanilla flowers. As if that were not enough, these flowers open for less than twenty-four hours, dying and falling to the ground if they have not been pollinated in that period of time.</p>
<p>It would be in 1841 when Edmond Albius, a 12-year-old slave, discovered on the island of Reunion how to pollinate vanilla flowers manually.</p>
<p>To this day, crops of this plant continue to be pollinated for the most part manually and, for a time, the small island where this pollination method was discovered was the largest supplier of vanilla in the world. Currently, almost <strong>80% of the world&#8217;s production</strong> is grown in Madagascar.</p>
<p>Although it was possible to grow vanilla naturally thanks to this new knowledge, the small amount produced due to the enormous difficulty of growing and drying it led to the search for synthetic alternatives to meet the global demand for this precious spice.</p>
<p>This is where <strong>vanillin</strong> or vanilla essence would come into play. Synthesized for the first time in 1858 from dry vanilla extracts, it is at least twenty times cheaper than vanilla and today more than <a href="https://www.expertmarketresearch.com/reports/vanilla-and-vanillin-market">35,000 tons of this product are sold per year</a>.</p>

<h2>USES AND BENEFITS OF VANILLA AROMA</h2>
