Illicium verum, commonly known as star anise, star aniseed or badian, is a tree native to Vietnam and southwest China which is extensively used in the manufacture of many fragrances and scents.
The essential oil of this plant is obtained from its ripe fruit, whose shape gives the tree its name. The most widespread method for its extraction is steam distillation.
STAR ANISE ESSENTIAL OIL APPLICATIONS
This material is of great importance for perfumists due to its intense and sweet aniseed notes recalling licorice and fennel. It is useful as a raw material not only for the design of fragrances and aromas intended for the food industry, but also for many other fields.
One of the main reasons for this is that it has characteristics that are attractive in the pharmacological field such as its expectorant properties, which were already recognised thousands of years ago by traditional Chinese medicine.
At Destilerías Muñoz Gálvez, we use star aniseed essential oil in the design of products destined to cover the needs of the many projects of our customers, among which is the design of spicy fragrances with a warm oriental touch intended for its use in applications such as scented candles or other air fresheners.
